Alessandra Orofino

Alessandra Orofino Poubel is a Brazilian economist, cultural strategist, non-profit executive, and documentary filmmaker. She graduated with a degree in economics and human rights from Columbia University and studied political science at Sciences Po Paris. Her early career involved field research on human rights issues in Brazil and India before she transitioned into civic mobilization and narrative strategy. In 2011, she co-founded NOSSAS (originally launched as Meu Rio), a prominent civic technology organization and advocacy lab that grew into a large membership-driven campaigning network in Brazil.Orofino's professional operations encompass media executive roles, cultural productions, and environmental advocacy. She served as the creator and showrunner for Greg News on HBO Latin America, a political satire and journalistic program. Her documentary work includes co-writing and producing Apocalypse in the Tropics (Apocalipse nos Trópicos) alongside filmmaker Petra Costa. Recognized as an Ashoka Fellow, Obama Foundation Fellow, and Skoll Social Entrepreneurship awardee, she focuses her strategic communication on environmental policy, climate narratives, and public sector accountability.
