A violent, mentally unbalanced man in a remote farm imagines an accident victim is his long dead mother, and his sister tries to get help for the unconscious woman without her brother's knowledge.

Larry (John Cairney - a sort of lower league James Mason) is about to get married. Only problem is he's doing a 5 year stretch for armed robbery.

A slick young man buys a jewel with a cheque that bounces. He then disappears and both the police and a secretive lawyer try to find him. The lawyer hires a good-looking woman to track down the missing man and to tell him that "South Africa Smith is coming back" Her search leads her to beatnik cellars, smart, illegal gambling parties and prestigious mews in Chelsea. The missing man's body is later found in the Thames but the case is by no means over.

When Audrey leaves prison after being framed for jewel theft, she asks stepsister Dora for shelter. Dora takes Audrey to a party hosted hosted by Lacey, her boyfriend. Lacey complains about his neighbor, the mysterious Mr. Malpas, who makes strange noises all night and is never seen. Next day, Audrey gets a job offer from Malpas, triggering a plot involving a missing heir, diamonds and kidnapping.
